Question 1

What CPC should I aim for with Facebook ads for my book?

Accepted Answer

For KU series books, aim for a cost-per-click under $0.20-$0.25. For direct sales and higher-priced books, up to $0.35-$0.50 can work. Reader magnets can tolerate $0.40-$0.70. Always calculate your break-even CPC first by working backwards from your royalty per page read times expected pages per click.

Question 2

What is the 3/5/7-Day Facebook Ad Framework?

Accepted Answer

The 3/5/7-day framework tells you exactly when to check your ads and what decision to make at each checkpoint. Day 3: is the ad firing at all? Day 5: is CPC trending right? Day 7: make your Kill, Tweak, or Keep decision. This prevents over-reacting to early data and waiting too long to fix a bad ad.

Question 3

What are pages read per click and why do they matter for KU authors?

Accepted Answer

Pages read per click is KENP pages read from Amazon Attribution divided by total link clicks from Facebook. It is the most important profitability signal for KU authors. 20+ pages per click means you are likely doubling your money. 10+ is approximate break-even. Under 10 means you are likely losing money.

Question 4

Should I use Advantage+ or Original audience for my book ads?

Accepted Answer

Start with Original audience. It gives you control with hard constraints on age, gender, location, and interests. Advantage+ treats your inputs as suggestions and can drift to the wrong readers. Once you have winning ads, Advantage+ can be worth testing as a scaling tool.

Question 5

How do I know if my Facebook ads are actually profitable?

Accepted Answer

Compare your total ad spend against royalties earned from clicks tracked through Amazon Attribution. Multiply KENP pages read by $0.0045 to estimate KU royalties, add direct sales royalties, then subtract ad spend. Amazon Attribution only captures 33-50% of actual reads so treat numbers as floor estimates.

Question 6

What does Kill, Tweak, or Keep mean in Facebook ads?

Accepted Answer

Kill if CPC is stuck above your threshold for 7+ days with no downward trend, or result rate is under 1% consistently. Tweak if CPC is above target but improving, or one segment is dragging up your average. Keep or scale if CPC is at or below break-even for several days and pages per click are at target.

Question 7

How do I scale a winning Facebook ad without breaking it?

Accepted Answer

Increase budget by 20-30% at a time and wait 3-5 days between increases. Consider duplicating the ad set rather than editing the original to preserve the winner while testing the scaled version. Confirm the ad has been profitable for at least 5-7 consecutive days before scaling.

Question 8

What makes great Facebook ad creative for a book?

Accepted Answer

Great book ad creative makes the right reader feel something rather than explaining the plot. The image stops the scroll, the primary text opens with an excerpt or vivid review, and the headline is punchy enough to stand alone. Always turn off Facebook AI enhancements for images and text.

Question 9

Why does my Amazon Attribution data look different from my KDP reports?

Accepted Answer

Amazon Attribution tracks only readers who clicked your specific ad links within the attribution window. Your KDP dashboard shows all page reads from every source. Use Amazon Attribution for ad-specific profitability math and KDP totals only for overall business health.

Question 10

Should I use Campaign Budget Optimization for my book ads?

Accepted Answer

No. Set your budget at the ad set level, not the campaign level. CBO lets Facebook decide how to split your budget and it almost always dumps everything into one ad set, preventing fair testing. Facebook CBO recommendations are designed for advertisers spending over $10,000 per month.

Question 11

What is a trope and why does it matter for selling books?

Accepted Answer

A trope is a recognizable story pattern like enemies-to-lovers or second chance romance that signals to readers exactly what emotional experience they are about to have. Readers actively search by trope on Amazon and through AI recommendation engines.

Question 12

What does genre-correct mean?

Accepted Answer

Genre-correct means every element of your book packaging including cover, title, blurb, and series name immediately signals the right genre to the right reader. When packaging is genre-correct, readers find your book and buy it. When it is not, even great writing goes undiscovered and ad spend produces wrong-reader clicks that do not convert.
